#SeriesCrackDown Update 2

Hey guys,

So it is currently day 3 of the read-a-thon and I just wanted to give you another quick update.

So, I have finished a total of three books; two since the last update. I started the week with The Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks, which was fantastic and it set up the week really well. However, I found myself disappointed with my next two reads.

I finished Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones, which is the sequel to Wintersong. I loved the first book in this series but the second book in this series is a bit of a disappointment; I found myself wanting any form of plot and found some of the characters completely different from the first book.

I then picked up The Crown’s Fate by Evelyn Skye, however, I did find myself a bit disappointed. This is the sequel to The Crown’s Game which I absolutely loved. However, I found myself feeling like there was nothing really added to this book and it felt like it was there simply to make it a series rather than a standalone. With the very little that actually happens in The Crown’s Fate, both books could have been combined and it would have worked really well.

Okay, so far 1 good book, 2 disappointments.

Now, what do I plan on reading tonight, for my last night shift?

I have another two books that I am taking with me, hopefully I will be able to finish both of these tonight.

Firstly, Fireblood by Elly Blake, the sequel to Frostblood. I loved Frostblood, I found it to be a very typical YA fantasy but I still need to know what happens next. This is currently the only book published in this series that I haven’t read and with the sequel set to be published this year, I really would like to be caught up. It have just over 400 pages so I should be able to get this done tonight!

The other book I intend on getting to tonight is Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes, the forth book in the Falling Kingdoms Series. I really need to get this series caught up, mainly because I have the companion series and have the final book in the series on pre-order. I have loved each of the books in this series, but they have taken me a little bit to get in to. It has been a while since I read book 3, so hopefully I haven’t forgotten too much stuff. Again, this is just over 400 pages; so hopefully I should be able to get this done tonight too!

How has your read-a-thon been so far? I am really happy with my amount of reading, if not the quality of some of the books! Let me know how you are doing in the comments below!

    1. The great to hear! Yeah, having disappointing sequels feels like such a let down. Especially as both of these (I believe) are duologies so I feel like they were made simply to make more money rather than add to the story! Really annoys me… but we’re always going to find books we don’t really like reading.
